History

The Centre was established as a result of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna and the University of Ilorin. The first memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing the National Water Resources Capacity Building Network for North Central (NWRCBNet-NC), signed on 31st August 2010, was renewed on 7th May, 2015. The activities of the Centre began in May 2012 after presentation of the report of the combined Technical /Management meeting attended by Prof. B.F. Sule and Dr A.W. Salami (Coordinator), held at the University of Calabar from 3rd to 4th May 2012. The National Water Resources Institute (NWRI) Kaduna had earlier sent a set of questionnaires to the Department of Civil Engineering in October 2009 requesting for expertise in the area of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering. This linkage activities between the Department and NWRI, Kaduna was eventually concretised by selecting the University of Ilorin to host the National Water Resources Capacity Building Network Centre for North Central (NWRCBNet-NC) region. It is to be noted that the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering of the University was established to foster the activities of the Centre and subsequently host the Masters programme in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
